In the final half of the 1990’s when people wanted to create gifts to celebrate milestones in a loved one’s life they usually turned to one or other of the following.
Cutting and clipping of old photographs to create a framed photo montage, digitising all of their old photo albums and cine films and then creating a slide show or short video perhaps with some favourite music added, or if you had a few bob… you might have filmed family and friends at their party using one of the new range of compact video cameras.
Since the Millenium and the meteoric growth in the use of smart phone cameras and social media applications like Facebook and Twitter, the emphasis has been on storing many 000’s of random photos and video clips, many of which are taken whilst under the influence of one substance or another. But who will take the time to review these highly compressed images in 50 years time I wonder?
People have always been interested in telling and listening to people’s stories, and understanding the connections we have had in our lives with friends and family. The massive growth in Genealogy has been made possible through technology, enabling people to more easily search for information about their ancestors. But trying to bring the stories of their ancestors lives to life has been a labour of love, sometimes taking many years to discover missing pieces of the jigsaw.
Now over the last 5 years or so, a new breed of product and service providers have been rising to popularity, with the aim of professionally capturing the Life Stories of people just like you…or your parents…or even your grandparents.
Many of these businesses have experienced what it is like to lose a loved one before you have truly understood their early lives, and all recognises the priceless value of providing people with a resource to create something magical for families to celebrate the amazing lives, memories and stories of those we love.
It is this passion for capturing those stotries for posterity that is at the core of the Life Stories Association members.
